Watercolor resist paintings

Students from 2D Studio Art practiced using a variety of resist techniques with frisket, glue, and mod-podge to create layered portraits. It was a requirement for the first portrait to be from a picture that they took themselves but then afterwards students were allowed to explore working with portraits that they found on the Internet if they wanted try more than one technique.

Wallpaper inspired by Julia Rothman

As a sketchbook assignment, students in 2D Studio Art were given the assignment to create a pattern that would be easily repeatable with the use of a photocopier. We looked at the work of contemporary artist Julia Rothman and used her technique for creating a design that could be tiled. Students could make their final piece as large as they wanted as long as they added color to some areas using mediums of their choosing.

Paper relief

As an introductory project, 3D Studio art students transformed white paper into three-dimensional sculptures. Students worked in groups and were challenged to create work that was different from their peers to show variety in surface and form.
